1914 Yellowstone Stagecoach Poster - 12x18 inches.
The artist is Ludwig Hohlwein, 1874-1949. This is arguably the most collected Yellowstone Park poster in the world. Hohlwein was a master poster artist from Germany. This is the quintessential Yellowstone stagecoach poster from the Golden Age of Stagecoaches in the park, 1898-1916. The image is a Tally-Ho stagecoach loaded with passengers. These coaches held up to 34 passengers were often top heavy. Several of these coaches tipped over and wrecked on the steep incline between the NPRR depot in Gardiner, MT, to the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel six miles inside the park, a difference in elevation of almost 1,500 feet. This is a serigraph poster that was commissioned by the Yellowstone Park Transportation Company. The last year coaches operated in the park was 1916.
