The theme this year in Yellowstone National park is "Wonderland." This is a 1897 travel brochure illustration titled Wonderland '97. This fantasy illustration of a woman on the back of an eagle flying over the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone commemorates the 25th anniversary of Yellowstone National Park, 1872-1897. This brochure is one in a series of several Wonderland publications by the Northern Pacific Railroad (NPRR), circa 1885-1916. The names Yellowstone National Park and Wonderland were practically synonymous due to the sustained publicity and marketing of the NPRR. We offer two other early Wonderland posters this year to memorialize Yellowstone National Park as Wonderland.
